FUEL THE FIRE: FEMALE ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP WITH

The Maddie Giegold Glitter Wild Adventure Fund
Application Timeline: to be released soon
Scholarship Funds: $2,000
This scholarship is in loving memory of Maddie Giegiold. Maddie was a glitter wearing, ice cream loving, larger than life force who made everyone she met feel like a best friend. She radiated love and warmth, while living life with a fierce passion to uplift everyone around her and to support systems of equity. Maddie chose to attend emergency medicine residency at UCSF Fresno, where she resonated with the medical community and where she could jump in the Sierra Nevada alpine lakes and frolic in the poppies on long trail adventures. She loved race day medicine, and served as medical staff at Broken Arrow, Western States, and FURTHER. Her "Hobbies and Interests" section on her UCSF Fresno residency page embodies her energy for all things. (And is perhaps the best Hobbies/Interests section in medical resident history?) "Trail running, climbing, mountains, flowers, snuggling my cats, walking my dog, drinking coffee in the morning, playing/listening to music, completing the junior ranger programs at various parks, smelling candles at TJ Maxx, learning about racism and systemic oppression, dismantling the cis/white/heteropatriarchy. EM interests: health equity and social EM, environmental medicine, wilderness medicine." May we all smell the TJ Maxx candles, dismantle the patriarchy, and spread love in honor of Maddie.
